It’s Trader Joe’s meets Aldi at the newest grocery chain development hitting the US—signature Lidl brands at highly discounted prices. And one of its first landing spots will be right here in little ol’ Clayton! This 36,000 brand-new facility will be located off US-70 in Clayton, right across from the Clayton Wal-mart.
So, What’s the Big Deal with Lidl Anyway?
Lidl is a popular grocery store in Europe with over 10,000 stores across the continent. And it just entered the US market on June 15th with 10 stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. It plans to open 100 more stores across the East Coast within the next year.
Lidl’s Products and Offerings
Like Trader Joe’s, Lidl features about 90% of its own signature brand products (many of which have actually won awards and recognitions, like their internationally-recognized cheeses and wines). And like Aldi, it’s focus is definitely on price. Its
easy-to-shop layout consists of only six aisles, and it’s open during prime shopping hours seven days a week.
Lidl Specials & Specialties
After its opening, Lidl will offer five fresh specials every Thursday and Monday, including discounts on three fresh fruits and veggies and two meats, as well as weekly themed specials. Other offerings include fresh-baked goods and pastries, a full selection of organic and gluten-free foods and produce, and plenty of healthy and sustainable options—including certified sustainable fresh and frozen seafood. And all of their label brands contain no hydrogenated oils, synthetic colors, or added MSG.
Don’t Forget to Try the Wine (And Cheese)
Lidl’s biggest draw just might be its award-winning wines, which have won over 200 medals this year alone! It was the top-performing retailer at the 2017 International Wine Competition and the 2017 INDY International Wine Competition. And to go along with all that great wine, its cheeses were recognized at the 2017 Los Angeles International Dairy Competition.
