If you’ve been following along with our Home Fitness Tips, you probably spent some time painting your home and working on your color scheme, and now you’re ready to take it up another notch. So take a good look at your floors. Is your vinyl cracked? Are your carpets stained or worn? Are your hardwoods scratched? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, you have work to do.
But fear not; the Tina Barletta Team is here to help! Here are our best tips for amazing flooring.
Refinish Wood Flooring

One of the most cost-effective ways to really improve your home’s appearance is to refinish scuffed, scratched, or dated hardwood flooring. It’s a little time-consuming, as all the furniture in the area must be removed, the floor must be completely sanded down, and then several coats of polyurethane must be applied—but the end result is pretty WOW.
Refinishing is something you can do yourself (if you’ve got the time and the know-how) or fairly cheaply hire a professional for.
Recoat or Repair Wood Floors

If you’ve recently had your floors installed or refinished, you might not need a full refinishing (which includes the sanding-down part). Instead, you might be able to get away with something a little easier, like recoating. In this case, you don’t sand down the floor and instead just add a coat or two of finish.
In cases of really minor scratches or buffs, you might even be able to use a special wood marker or wax crayon to simply color in the scratches.
Deep-Clean Your Carpets

If your carpets are looking a little under the weather (or if you’ve got pets), you might want to consider renting a carpet cleaning machine (you can find them at Home Depot, Lowe’s, or even Walmart) or hiring a professional to get the job done. Not only will a deep clean help your carpets look better, it’ll have your whole room smelling fresher.
Replace Old Carpets

Are your carpets discolored, threadbare, stained, or just… sad-looking? A deep clean might not be enough to get your rooms looking awesome; it might be time to consider new flooring. The nice thing about replacing flooring is it gives you the option to choose a new flooring type, like hardwood or vinyl, or a nice high-end plush carpet.
Install Some Nice Vinyl Replicas

Want a versatile, durable, and cost-effective alternative to hardwood or carpet? Try vinyl! There are tons of options for vinyl flooring—both hardwood and tile—so you can find a size, shape, color, and style to match just about any room or home style.
If you’re handy and have the tools, you can install the flooring yourself, or you can pay to have an installer come and take care of the job for you.
